Draft Breakdown v2.0

Late 1st/Early 2nd Round

Interview 1/23
Max Unger
C Oregon Senior
6'5" 309 lbs 40: 5.30 sec
Strengths: Unger may be the best, overall, interior offensive line prospect in the draft. Unger has the ability and potential to play four of the five offensive line spots, but fits in best as a guard or center. Unger has ideal size for an interior lineman and uses his body well. Does a great job using his hands while blocking and once he locks on, it's over. Does a good job pulling and trap blocking. Matches up well against most defensive lineman, using his lower body strength to his advantage. A smart player who reads the defense well and can make the line calls with ease. May end up being drafted to play guard right away and has the physical and mental tools to do it. Very high character player with no off field issues.
Weaknesses: Doesn't always play with a mean streak and can get high in his blocks at times. Unger has been moved around on the offensive line while at Oregon and that may have affected his develoment. Unger also played mainly in a shotgun offense and will need to get used to playing with a QB under him at the next level. Has trouble blocking players while in the open field.
Quick Hits: One of the few offensive line prospects in the draft that could play every position on the line. Though Unger shouldn't play LT in the NFL, he could do it in a pinch. Unger played LT for his first two years at Oregon and was finally switched to center. After making the transition, Unger was the given first team All Pac-10 awards his junior and senior seasons. A high character player that will make an NFL team happy by freeing up a roster spot with his versatility. Matched up well with star defensive lineman at the Senior Bowl, and "Ziggy" Hood referred to Unger as the toughest matchup he faced in Mobile.
