| Strengths: |
Another successful USC Quarterback making the transition to the pros. Played in an offense that is going to help him adjust to the NFL quickly. Has a good arm, and good mobility. Good bulk to help absorb the blows that the NFL is going to hand him. He is very accurate when he gets a chance to set his feet. He has quick feet and good footwork in the pocket. Leads his receivers pretty well. Sanchez has a quick release, getting the ball out quickly and too his receiver before the defense knows what is happening. He throws well on the run. |
| Weaknesses: |
We frown on the decision for junior QBs to come out early unless they have extensive experience as a starter, which Sanchez does not. He doesn’t have the desired height for a pocket passer, but he overcomes this with a pretty high release point. He can get happy feet in the pocket if the play doesn’t develop, but luckily he still can get the ball to where he needs to without setting his feet. Sanchez will occasionally float the ball over the middle. He has very limited experience and will take a while to adjust to the NFL. |
| Quick Hits: |
Sanchez is a third generation Mexican-American and has been a role model for Mexican American children nationwide since he was announced the starting Quarterback before his redshirt Junior season. He was considered the top QB recruit in the nation coming out of high school. Sanchez has all the tools to be a top notch QB, and Trent Dilfer even said he thought Sanchez was the best player in the 2009 NFL draft. We think Sanchez would have been better suited for the NFL game if he had stayed for his senior season and learned more about the specifics of the QB position and refined his technique. In a few years, Sanchez could be a star QB. |
