| Strengths: |
A very productive young player from the Big East. LeSean has good height for a running back as well as exceptional quickness. He plays low to the ground, avoiding the big blows. A real slash back in who makes quick cuts to elude defenders and keeps his feet moving forward. McCoy plays at multiple speeds and has a burst that many top running backs lack. Showed reliable hands and produced as a receiver out of the backfield. Makes a lot of plays in the open field. Plays faster than he times. May never be able to carry the load by himself, but should be good compliment to a power running game and rack up big yards late in the game after the defense is tired. He usually falls forward to pick up those extra yards. McCoy finds the hole and gets through it quickly. |
| Weaknesses: |
Doesn’t have elite speed and long speed could be questioned. On the smaller side, but he doesn’t look frail. With the way he carries the ball, he could have a problem with fumbling in the NFL. He doesn’t seem afraid of contact, but he certainly doesn’t like to deliver the blow. He needs to be more patient and wait for plays to develop and that may be the biggest adjustment he will need to make when transitioning to the pro game. |
| Quick Hits: |
McCoy opened his career as a Panther in their version of the “wildcat” offense. He carried their offense on his back for most of his short career there. He recorded a 4.25 40-yard dash at the 2004 State college Nike Training Camp. He has good bloodlines…his brother, LeRon, plays in the NFL for the Houston Texans and was a 7th round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He was a top prospect coming out of high school according to many recruiting sites.
