Greg Carr |
Spencer: How are things working out for you?
Carr: Everything's going pretty good. Still working out and trying to stay in the best shape possible.
Spencer: Are you pretty happy everything is winding down now?
Carr: Yeah definitely. Just ready to see how everythings gonna unfold and get started somewhere new.
Spencer: You were a late invite to the Senior Bowl. How did it feel to get that call to go play in Mobile?
Carr: It felt good because like you said, that's a big opportunity and whether it was late or being one of the first guys, just being able to play in that game and being able to play in front of the NFL coaches was a big plus. I was really excited about it because that's something you look forward to as a senior, every senior wants to play in the Senior Bowl so being one of those guys that got to play was a big plus for me.
Spencer: How do you think you performed that week?
Carr: I felt like I did pretty good. I felt like I did everything that I could do, as far as coming in late, in one day of pads what I could do. I thought I did pretty good and went out there and did everything I could do as a player.
Spencer: How did you feel about getting snubbed for the combine?
Carr: I'm not sure what even happened. I just knew I wasn't invited. I just told myself that's just something I can't stress or worry about and I needed to do what I needed to be prepared for my pro day.
Spencer: How'd your pro day go?
Carr: I felt good. I felt like going in, I didn't want to put too much pressure on me, being my only opportunity, but at the same time, I just wanted to go out there and perform to the best of my ability. I felt good throughout the whole day. I felt really relaxed and felt that I was well prepared for the whole thing.
Spencer: How do you present yourself to an NFL team to show that you deserve to be picked before some of the other prospects?
Carr: I feel like I bring a lot to the table. Being a guy with size, I'm not really limited to one or two things. I'm a big receiver that can do a lot. I can go across the middle, catch the deep balls. I can do anything a smaller receiver can do. I'm not as fast as some, but I feel like I can get things done just as well. I feel like a big complete receiver is a plus. The more I work, I feel like I can be a complete receiver.
Spencer: Do you compare your game to any WRs in the league now?
Carr: I'd look at myself a Reggie Wayne type guy. I like to watch Anquan Boldin as well. Being one of those big receivers that uses that to his advantage throughout the football game, just punishing defensive backs with the ball in my hands or without the ball in my hands. Just being a physical guy.
Spencer: What's going to be the toughest challenge transitioning into the NFL?
Carr: I would have to say the speed of the game. It's a big difference between college and pro, but you have to be able to adjust to the whole level of competition. Just being able to go out there and play against the best guy every week, but in college, you might face a guy one week that isn't at the same level physically. Going out there at that next level, you've gotta bring it every week because you're going against the best every game.
Spencer: Where do you think you fit in best in the NFL? A red zone threat? An every down receiver?
Carr: I feel like the sky's the limit with that. I've just gotta continue to work. I know wherever I start at, I'll probably be a redzone guy, but I'll continue to work to be more that more complete guy, that 1 or 2 receiver. That's the main agenda is to be that receiver, not to be the receiver that comes in every now and then.
Spencer: Any teams showing a little more interest than others right now?
Carr: It's hard to tell. I did all my interviews at the Senior Bowl and it's just kind of up in the air. You're just hoping that someone is giving you a closer look, but it's hard to say at this point.
Spencer: What's your next career goal?
Carr: Just to have that opporunity to play at the next level, but at the same time, I don't wanna be one of those guys that just gets there. My main goal is to take full advantage of the opportunity and be the best wide receiver I can be.
Spencer: Are there any prospects at Florida State that the scouts should be keeping an eye on?
Carr: I could name a couple guys that are coming out this year. We've got a defensive back, Patrick Robertson. He's gonna be really good. Then you've got a linebacker, Dakota Watson...defensive end Marcus White. There's gonna be a couple of guys that are gonna make some noise this year. We've got a lot of young up and coming receivers too.
Spencer: Any advantage playing at a large program like Florida State?
Carr: I feel like it gives you a big advantage because you're playing against some of the best, if not THE best college athletes each and every day. You're not just seeing it in game situations, but every day in practice. That's a really big advantage to me, just being able to play against some of the best athletes every day, not just in game situations.
Spencer: Who were the toughest defensive backs you faced while at Florida State.
Carr: I'd say it was between Macho Harris of Virginia Tech and Alphonso Smith of Wake Forest. Bruce Johnson from Miami was pretty good as well.
Spencer: Alphonso Smith mentioned you as one of the better wide receivers he's faced when I talked to him at the Senior Bowl.
Carr: Yeah, he's definitely a play making DB. Every time he's out on the field, you've gotta know where he is. You've gotta kind of pay respects to him because he's just as good as a lot of play making receivers with the ball in his hands, so you've gotta keep the ball away from him. He was one of the top ACC interception leaders, so he's a really good player.
Spencer: What was your major at Florida State?
Carr: Social Sciences
Spencer: Do you have any particular plans for draft weekend?
Carr: Just sitting around, waiting, hoping for a call. I'll definitely be with my family.
Spencer: If there was one more thing that you could tell the NFL fans, coaching staff or the media before draft weekend, what would it be?
Carr: I'd have to say that Greg Carr is very humble guy who comes out and isn't just a good football player, but a good person and team mate as well. The football player in me is just a little glimpse of the whole person.
Spencer: Thanks a lot Greg and best of luck on draft day!
