Scouting Report

Spencer: How are things working out so far?

Quin: Going pretty good. Relax a little bit, working out a little bit. Just getting ready for this weekend.

Spencer: What's your mindset right now?

Quin: I'm confident. I'm anxious to find out where I'm going and see what's gonna happen. I'm not just nervous about it.

Spencer: Have you done any private workouts or visits?

Quin: Yes sir, I worked out for the Patriots, the Jaguars and the Panthers.

Spencer: How'd they go?

Quin: I think they went pretty well. The Patriots put me through a lot more drills than Jacksonville and Carolina, but Jacksonville and Carolina put me through a lot of drills too! But the Patriots put me through a lot more stuff than they did.

Spencer: What are teams looking for you to play in the NFL; safety or corner?

Quin: I think they're looking at me to play a little bit of both. They'll probably have me come in and play safety, but being able to come in and play the nickel or corner and just fill in wherever needed in the secondary. The feeling I get from talking to a lot of teams, I think they're looking at me more as a safety primarily.

Spencer: Is it a difficult transition from corner to safety, or can you bounce back and forth pretty well?

Quin: I think I can move back and forth pretty well. Even as a corner, I played pretty physical. I was always trying to get in on the run and I was always trying to track down deep balls. As a safety, you've got a different perspective of the game. Instead of being on one side, you're kind of in the middle of the field and you get to go both ways. But I think I'll transition really well to safety.

Spencer: Do you have a preference for either one?

Quin: I don't have a preference, I just want to play.

Spencer: Are there any current NFL players you'd compare your play style to?

Quin: I compare myself to Ronde Barber. He's a smart player. He's always around the ball. He's playing the nickel, he's playing the outside corner, he's all over the field. He'll come up and make tackles. He does a lot for Tampa Bay, so he's one player that I really like to compare myself to. As a corner in my press game, I compare myself to Al Harris. He's probably one of the most physical corners in the league.

Spencer: Did you have any favorite teams or players growing up?

Quin: I used to follow the San Fransisco 49ers when they had Jerry Rice. That was my team. I used to watch the Washington Redskins back in the day because that was my dad's team. For now, I don't really have a team. If there's a game on, I'll watch it because there's a player on every team that I enjoy watching.

Spencer: What can you immediately provide for an NFL team.

Quin: Versatility. I can do a whole lot of different things. I can play corner, strong safety, free safety. I've played every position on special teams. I can do it all.

Spencer: You returned kicks at New Mexico too. Is that something you'd like to pursue in the NFL too?

Quin: Absolutely.

Spencer: If you had a choice between making your mark as a return man or a defensive back, which would it be?

Quin: Defensive back.

Spencer: What is it about defensive back that appeals to you?

Quin: I just like being on the field playing defense. I like to be in places to take people out of a game, whether it's a receiver or tight end. I like to be in there making tackles. I like the contact of the game. I know special teams as a returner, you can make a play and change the game. But I like being out there as a DB and making plays on the defense, just flying around on the field and doing a lot of different things.

Spencer: You transferred from a junior college to New Mexico. What was the hardest part of the transition for you?

Quin: To me, probably just moving away from home. It was a long way from home and it was my first time being away from my family. I was a safety in high school and then I went to my JUCO and I was playing corner but it was a Cover 2 scheme. Then I went to New Mexico and we played mainly man to man, so I had to learn to be a true man-cover corner.

Spencer: Who's been your biggest influence growing up?

Quin: My parents. My mom and my dad. My dad was a football player. He was a cornerback all through high school. He went to college and played but left. He always told me he could have went to the NFL if he tried harder. I've always told myself that I don't wanna have to tell my child what I could have done. I want to work as hard as I can and go as far as I can. My mom was always good talking to me and guiding me through times when they were pretty dark. So I have to say my parents were a big influence on me growing up.

Spencer: Looking back at your college career, which receiver stands out to you as the toughest matchup you've faced?

Quin: This might sound weird, but my first two years at New Mexico I was covering with Marcus Smith and Travis Brown. Marcus Smith was drafted by the Ravens and I think Travis Brown is in St. Louis now. Those two are probably the hardest receivers I've covered in my three years. Just going back and forth with those guys at practice. From another team, Austin Collie from BYU was pretty good and Mike Wallace from Arizona.

Spencer: Do you have any particular draft day goals?

Quin: I feel like coming from New Mexico, we didn't get a lot of the national publicity that a lot of schools got. So unless you did some things like a Brian Urlacher did, it's probably gonna be hard for anyone to slide into the first round. Ryan Cook, a couple of years ago, made it into the second round. I feel like second round is a good possibility. I feel like with my versatility and what I can bring to a team, I don't feel like it's a long shot for me to slide in there. But third-fourth round, I feel like that's probably where I'll be drafted. I feel pretty confident about that.

Spencer: Do you have any particular plans for draft day?

Quin: Saturday I'm just gonna wake up and relax, chill out. I might look at it a little to get a feel for it. I've been projected anywhere from the third to the fifth round. So I'll just look at it a little on Saturday to see if I can slide up a little. If not, on Sunday I'll wake up, eat some breakfast and just wait. I'll have my family and friends over at my house. I don't have any big plans or having any big draft day parties or anything.

Spencer: If there was one more thing that you could let NFL Fans, Coaches or the media know about you before they hear your name called on draft day, what will it be?

Quin: Just let them know that whoever drafts me is gonna get a number one guy, a number one winner, a number one leader and a number one worker. I'm gonna give it everything I've got and give it my all every day and every play. If a team takes a chance on me, they won't be disapointed.

Spencer: Thanks a lot Glover and best of luck on draft day!
