Draft Breakdown v2.0

1st Round

Brandon Pettigrew
TE Oklahoma State Senior
6'5" 263 lbs 40: 4.85 sec
Strengths: The best combination of blocking and receiving skill of any tight end in the draft. Pettigrew started his career being utilized mainly as a blocker and that certainly helped his development. Pettigrew seems to love blocking, especially in the run game. Has a mean streak while blocking. Great build for a tight end with long arms and big hands. A reliable pass catcher that works well on the underneath routes. Plays physically. Is unafraid of contact after the catch. Does a decent job of adding to the play after the catch. Runs solid routes and creates mis-matches with most LBs and even some safeties. While he's not an H-back type, he's certainly a solid threat as a receiver. An all around football player that's fun to watch.
Weaknesses: Doesn't have the timed speed you'd like to see in a receiving tight end, but his skills as a blocker make up for it. Suffered an ankle injury his senior season that caused him to miss a few games. Had some serious off field issues.
Quick Hits: Was never the main feature of Oklahoma State's offense and his development as a pass catcher may have suffered from it; his stats certainly did. Was arrested in 2008 for assaulting a police officer, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and he received probation in June. Has stayed out of trouble since. One of the most well rounded tight ends to come around in a while, Pettigrew will make any NFL team happy. Brandon may also fall to the bottom of round 1, but it may be due to team needs and not play.
