Draft Breakdown v2.0

Top 25
BJ Raji
DT Boston College Senior
6'1" 337 lbs 40: 5.13 sec
Strengths: Short and compact, Raji stands up well against blockers...even the double team. Solid strength at the point of attack, Raji is difficult for offensive lineman to move. Does a good job disrupting plays around the line of scrimmage and is a defender that offenses will have to plan for. Has solid initial hit when engaging a blocker but is able to release quickly and make the tackle. Has a quick burst off the line, eventhough the burst doesn't last long. A two-gap defender that has the strength and size to play NT in a 3-4 as well as the quickness to play DT in a 4-3. Raji's combination of size and speed creates headaches for blockers. Does a good job shooting the gap and reaching the backfield.
Weaknesses: Maturity is a serious concern. Red shirted the 2007 due to academic issues. Has had some serious weight issues, fluxuating up and down. Could potentially put on more weight once he signs a contract, which isn't a good thing. Conditioning with Raji is a concern as he tires quickly and wears down as the game goes on. Isn't a threat to chase down a play or a quarterback. Won't be able to chase down quicker quarterbacks in the backfield.
Quick Hits: Raji really came on his senior season and shined at the Senior Bowl. Has all the physical tools you could ask for but concerns with maturity, durability, and condtioning are certainly present. Also had shoulder surgery coming into the 2008 season, so injury concerns also linger. Could either wind up being very good in the NFL, or could end up out of the league in a few years.
