Draft Breakdown v2.0

First Round
Andre Smith
OT Alabama Junior
6'4" 332 lbs 40: ---- sec
Strengths: Tremendous strength and an oustanding run blocker. Smith is the type of lineman that gets his hands on someone and the rush is over. Physical with a mean streak. Does a good job getting to the next level and pulling out on screen plays. Recognizes blitzers well. Can take on the bull rush or the speed rush. Has long arms that latch onto defenders and don't let go easily. Smith has solid footwork and has a deep and quick kick slide. Outstanding durability, never missing a game due to injury. Plays surprisingly quick for his size
Weaknesses: Has struggled keeping weight off and is a bit heavier than you'd like. Has reported maturity issues and was suspended for the 2008 Sugar Bowl for illegal contact with an agent. Can get lazy at times and will forget to do the little things. Conditioning is an issue as he tires out quickly on long drives. Work ethic is seriously in question.
Quick Hits: An outstanding prospect, Smith has all the physical tools to succeed in the NFL. May be better as a RT in the league due to his tremendous run blocking ability. 3 year starter in the SEC, starting even his first game as a true freshman. 2008 Outland Trophy winner for nation's best lineman. First team All-American and First team All-SEC. Had some serious issues at the Combine, telling scouts and team officials that he wouldn't participate because he was out of shape and just recently started to work out. Showed more immaturity at his Pro-day when he decided to run without his shirt on, showing off a flabby and un-muscular upper body. If Smith can mature mentally, he has the physical tools and talent to be the best offensive tackle in this draft class.
