Draft Breakdown v2.0

Late 1st/Early 2nd Round

Interview 1/23
Alex Mack
C California Senior
6'3" 311 lbs 40: 5.10 sec
Strengths: Mack may be the best, "pure" center prospect in the draft. Has a compact frame and solid bulk. Mack has the strength to fight in the trenches against most defensive lineman. Athletic enough to pull and get to the next level on blocks. Extremely smart offensive lineman who can read a defense well and make the line calls, showing awareness by always seeming to find the blitzer. Plays with a mean streak and doesn't like to lose battles. Though Mack is very strong, he's more of a technician blocker than just a mauler. Knows the smart way to play. Has shown durability through his career.
Weaknesses: Has a tendency to play high at times and will lose leverage. Doesn't match up well against super-strong nose tackles. Had a hard time at the Senior Bowl blocking BJ Raji. Will sometimes be over-aggressive and reach for defenders.
Quick Hits: Recipient of the Draddy Award, which goes to the best scholar/athlete in the country. Extremely smart. Three year starter in the Pac-10, obtaining first team All Pac-10 honors each year. Mack is the all around package for an interior offensive lineman. Could possibly play Guard in a pinch, but projects better as a Center.
