| Strengths: |
An absolute monster of a pass rusher. Maybin has a great first step and intial burst to the ball. Plays much faster than timed speed indicates. Does a great job chasing down the play. Can beat most blockers around the edge with his quickness. Consistently gets into the backfield and makes plays. Does a decent job tackling with sound fundamentals. Maybin does a good job changing directions while maintaining speed. Keeps control of his body and rarely gets off balance. Maybin is a physical specimen with good muscle tone. Has a tremendous amount of potential. |
| Weaknesses: |
Should have stayed for another season. Maybin red shirted his freshman year, was a backup in 2007 and didn't start until 3 weeks into the season in 2008 for Penn State. Will only be a situational pass rusher at first in the NFL. Needs to work on rush defense. Not ideal size for a 4-3 DE and may be limited to playing as a 3-4 OLB. Has limited coverage experience. Maturity has been called into question. Was removed as the starter before Rose Bowl for being late to a team meeting. Did I mention that he should have stayed at Penn State for another season? |
| Quick Hits: |
Was named first team All-Big 10 in 2008, Maybin has tremendous pass rush ability. If Maybin is drafted by a team that can utilize him as a situational pass rusher at first as he develops, he may shine right away. Has a huge amount of up-side but really needs to develop his game to become more well-rounded. Will probably fit in best in the NFL as a 3-4 OLB, but needs to work on his coverage skills. Gained about 20 pounds of muscle between the end of the 2008 season and the combine and he showed that he won't be able to play at that weight, practicially eliminating him from being a 4-3 DE in the NFL. If Maybin meets his potential, he could be a pro-bowl caliber player in the league.
